Abstract

The paper introduces an aerofoil-inspired aerodynamic shading device to enhance building sustainability. The proposed aerodynamic shading device can be perfectly integrated with building structures by effectively embracing the principles of aerodynamics towards energy consumption and, broadly, better performance in terms of buildings. The aesthetic-structural device rendering is presented by making proper use of advanced computer-aided design (CAD) packages through SolidWorks software for geometrical optimization. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed in ANSYS to validate its real-world performance, with focus on both aerodynamic stability and structural resilience. The contribution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in accelerating FEA and improving design optimization was discussed, based on previous work where the AI reduced the computation time significantly. The results highlight the possibility of including aerodynamic shading devices in sustainable building design. Discussion on AI shows its revolutionary potential in future implementation. This work has taken a step further in intersecting aerodynamics, sustainability, and AI in architectural engineering.
